Geeky Review : Harry Potter Wizard's Collection - Sorcerer's Stone & Chamber of Secrets

Untitled

Welcome to my first review of this 31 disc set! Are you excited? Good, you should be. I would be too.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Year 1:

Untitled

4 Discs total-
* BluRay copy - contains the theatrical and extended versions. Theatrical in-movie experience only.
* DVD copy - theatrical version only
* DVD special features
* BluRay special features

Luckily, if you don't have a BluRay player you can still enjoy the movies and the original extras that were included during the initial release of these movies on DVD.
The BluRay in-movie experience is really awesome, kinda. I was first introduced into this in the Deathly Hallows Blu Rays and I instantly wanted it for the remainder of the series. However in YR1, the in-movie experience is mainly Chris Columbus and him regretting things. Really it is. It's kinda annoying. But then he offers up amazing and awesome information with cute stories then cuts it down with regret. Part of me regretted listening to him talk.
Along with the tiny screen of regretful Chris Columbus there are also parts of the movie where an icon will pop up. If you select the icon, you'll be whisked away to a special featurette on the making of that scene. It's pretty nifty.

The BluRay special features contains the first part of Creating The World of Harry Potter. Although this is available on line, I've never watched it. It was released with previous BluRay copies of YR1 and quickly made the interweb rounds. It starts off with the beginning and what it took to cast the main actors and get this film off the ground. For me, lots of misty eyes.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Year 2:

4 Discs total-
* BluRay copy - contains the theatrical and extended versions. Theatrical in-movie experience only.
* DVD copy - theatrical version only
* DVD special features
* BluRay special features

This has the same features as the first film and it's initial DVD release. This one being the second of two that contain an extended version of the movie.
The in-movie experience is  a less regretful Chris Columbus. I will admit though, the Potterhead in me was way annoyed. He got some characters names incorrect and it lead to me having an extended dialog with my television. But that's just me.

Creating The World of Harry Potter, Part 2. This, also available on YouTube, takes a look the characters introduced into Harry's life and how they are brought to life on screen. It has to be one of my favorite parts in this documentary.

When the box is first opened. Yr1 is on the top. Directly under it is a drawer that contains Yr2 and Yr3. To the left of this drawer, push the star panel to revel a compartment containing your copy of the digital movie codes. They expire in September 2014. From my understanding, the digital movies are SD. But please correct me if I'm wrong.

There we have it. Pt 1! Be sure to check back for more updates and deeper reviews of the box set. So far not that exciting, but there's got to be a build up, right?

Cheers!
